Seafarer's welfare

Our most valuable asset is the seafarers at sea and thus our commitment towards their welfare. We highly respect the life at sea and thereby wish to follow our mission “Expert Care To Each Ship & Crew”.

At Garrets we go that extra mile to support our seafarers.

MLC 2006

We focus on awareness of the new MLC 2006 regulation (Marine Labour Convention red.)

As of August 2013, vessels above 500BT sailing under a flag that has ratified the convention must be certified accordingly. However, although a Flag State decides not to ratify the convention, they will still have to comply with the requirements in the convention if their ships enter the waters of other countries that have ratified the convention.

What is included in MLC 2006?

  • Minimum requirements for seafarers to work on board a ship
  • Conditions of employment
  • Accommodation, recreational facilities, food and catering
  • Health protection, medical care, welfare and social security protection
  • Compliance and enforcement

Day of the Seafarer

Recognised by the United Nations, and organised by the International Maritime Organisation, the day is aimed at engaging seafarers to be ambassadors for our industry and raise awareness of their importance to the global economy. At Garrets, we wholeheartedly support this day, and take out responsibility to the seafarers under our care very seriously.
